Hello Guys and Dolls,
Hope you are doing well. With all that has happened last year and half this year already it had been difficult for many. As things begin to be a little more normal I wish a you well.
On to the subject of this blog, if you are an artist like me you probably have more art than space. I definitely can relate. I have been painting and sketching like a mad woman. So I have started to organize my art. You may ask how on earth do you do that and know where and what you have. Well I will tell you a few of my secrets...lol.
The first thing is to make a list of everything you have painted. How do I do this, well in my case I have listed my procedure below.
1. Set up a page in your Microsoft Documents to make a list with photos of the art you have done.
2. Take the photos and add them to the document adding size, medium, title, leave a space so you can put sold if you should sell it, year painted and if it is framed or not. Keep doing this till you have all your art listed. This will make a wonderful catalog of your works.
Finding a way to store your art is also a need. I found a couple ways to do this and am listing them here.
1. I use accordion style portable file holders for unframed sketches that are 8x10" or smaller. They are reasonably priced if you are on a budget. I also have a few artist portfolio cases which I bought on sale in the years.
2. I find purchasing padded mailing envelopes great for paintings, both framed and not framed, 9z12" and under fit in the different sizes you can find in most places. I list which paintings are in the envelopes. Paintings stay clean and safe.
3. Larger paintings I use the swimming pool noodles you can get at dollar stores to put around the frames by cutting down the centers "long wise" of the noodle to make a pocket. You can cut the noodle to different sizes to fit each edge of the frame. I then put them in boxes if I have them. Keeps the paintings safe and clean. Once you do this you can stand them next to one another or do small stacks.
Well that is a few things I do to keep organized and have a little more space. I hope this helps you organize your works so you have more space.
Keep arting,
Monique Montney
